Techniques
The Legal Project’s sponsored a very successful training on June 27 & 28, 2000.Karla Digirolamo, an internally recognized expert in the field of domestic violence and Michelle Haskin, Esq., an active Domestic Violence Legal Connection panel member and mentor, lectured and role-played interview techniques to use with victims of domestic violence.
Trish
DeAngelis, Esq., of the Rensselaer County District Attorneys Office gave a vivid
and emotional segment on evidence, its collection and admissibility at trial.The
Legal Project’s Legal Director Jaya Connors, Esq., and Julia Masch, Esq.,
of the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence concluded
the first evening with a discussion of the importance of amending petitioners’
pro se petitions.
Michelle
Haskin, Esq., started the second evening outlining her trial preparation strategy
for the upcoming mock trial.The Hon.
Christian Hummel, Rensselaer Co. Family Court Judge, presided over the mock
trial, with Michelle representing the petitioner and Michael Friedman, Esq.,
representing the respondent.The roles
of petitioner and respondent were played by Andreanna C. Iakovidis and David
J. Cheris, both students in the Theatre Department of SUNY-Albany.Professor
Mark Dalton prepared all the necessary material for and directed the actors,
who did a fabulous job.
