Make Legal Services Available
The
Legal Project
and the Capital Region Bankruptcy Bar Association held their first joint
session offering legal advice and representation to people in our communities
seeking bankruptcy and credit representation.
By
any standard, this program was an overwhelming success.Forty-five
clients were scheduled, with another 4 coming as “stand-bys”.Thirty-seven
clients attended and were provided with consultations.Of
these, 28 clients were picked up for representation!
Ten
attorneys participated at the clinics, a total of 17 have joined the panel
so far. Some only do consults; some
only do representation; some do both. We have already begun getting calls
from clients requesting services at the next session!
The next session is scheduled for October 21st
Please
call Diane Metz (435-1770) to learn more about this program, to volunteer
for this or a future session, or to join the Bankruptcy & Credit Pro
Bono Panel.
Special
Thanks to Paula Barbaruolo who is leading this effort on behalf of the
Bankruptcy Bar!!

In
June, I got a call from the Shenendehowa Senior Center requesting help.An
attorney who was providing pro bono help to their clients was retiring
and they were unable to find someone to replace him.
After mentioning the dilemna to Maria, she spoke with the Center and agreed to provide free legal consultations to their seniors on a monthly basis!
