The
Legal Project
Pro
Bono Corner
Lisa A. Frisch, Executive Director
This time of year is always a busy one for us at The Legal Project,
as we get ready for our Pro Bono Reception in October (don’t forget
to make a note of the date—October 23, 2008) and continue our
Spring Appeal to the community for funding for our program. This year,
our efforts for fundraising take on even more importance, as the state
funding for civil legal services is in such flux.
There is no question
that with the state budget issues, public funding for programs like
ours are being cut. As a result, we must rely on the generosity of those
in the community that have an interest in equal justice. We know this
is a difficult time for everyone with the challenges facing our economy—gas
prices, food costs, etc.
But the people we
serve are in even worse straights, especially when they are facing life
threatening situations like domestic violence and badly need legal help
to escape the abuse. Please find it in your heart to continue to support
our program with even the most modest donation.
I recently received
a note from an elderly man who has been a long-time donor, apologizing
for only being able to send a $10 check due to his own financial constraints
this year. His note brought tears to my eyes that even this wonderful
gentleman had such a generous spirit that he sent us that check, even
while suffering his own financial hardships.
There are many ways
you can support us—through a personal donation (which can be made
by mail or through our website at www.legalproject.org, through support
of your business or law firm as an underwriter of our Pro Bono Reception
or as a member of our Honorary Committee; as a donor for our upcoming
Silent Auction or by taking out an advertisement in our Program Journal
for our event. And let’s not forget volunteering to do pro bono—that
is a huge support for us and our clients.
Please call or email
me at lfrisch@legalproject.org
if you would like to help out for the upcoming reception or are interested
in volunteering for one of our programs. Thank you for your help!
Thank you for volunteering
in May!
