Lisa A. Frisch, Executive Director
We've
been extremely fortunate to have wonderful friends and supporters who
know that losing the resources of The Legal Project would be a terrible
thing for domestic violence victims and others in need of civil legal
services for the working poor in the Capital District.
I mentioned in our
last newsletter that an anonymous donor is matching our donations that
are received by the end of 2005-up to $50,000! Many have helped us take
that challenge, and we are about half way to our goal. Our Special Winter
Appeal is underway, and we hope that with your help, we can meet that
challenge and start 2006 with that extra assistance that will mean so
much.
As you know, CDWBA
has provided us with a $3000 donation toward our match, which we greatly
appreciate. I want to also thank many of the others in the community
that have helped us through this challenging time, either through providing
financial help, assistance making contacts for funding in the future,
or other structural support and assistance. Without the help of so many,
we would be in a different place right now, but with that assistance,
we are confident that we can get through this time and implement effective
long-term strategies that will provide us with stability and security.
Nothing is more important to us than insuring that victims of domestic
violence are able to access our services to get protection in Family
Court, and representation in divorces so they can more effectively escape
their violent husbands. These victims depend on us for help, and we
must continue to be there to provide this critical service. Next month,
I hope to announce our success in making our match, and recognize those
who have helped us so much. Thank you, most sincerely, for all that
you have done for us. We also want to highlight the great need for more
stability in funding for all programs across the state that provide
civil legal assistance for domestic violence victims. Battered women
in every county in this state should have access to these services,
which can make the difference in finding safety, economic independence
and freedom.
Thanks for taking
cases in December!
